Aah, Hugr!

A ship of serene safety, securely supporting steady steerage sunward.

15-Tons of attitude, encased in a skin of steel, arms of aluminium stretching skyward, gripping the wind with fingers of canvas, pulling us ever onward.

A ship is a world unto itself, complete with history, language, climate and mythology.

Purchasing your first liveaboard vessel is not like buying a house.

It is more akin to moving to a sideways dimension.

Money isn't all you'll be paying and a boat isn't all you'll receive.

You hand over space in exchange for time, obtaining for yourself a personal microverse in which to dwell, one with a fresh set of laws, their connection with your previous somewhat tangential in nature.

I can only speak from my personal experience, which is one that stems from time spent in a universe of steel and wood, one where the God's play with loaded dice and comedy is just tragedy wearing a fake moustache.

Getting to know the laws of your own personal universe is tantamount to living not only comfortably, but at all.

In successive posts, I'll outline a handy guide to navigating this new dimension as much as I am able, but be wary, the universe of 'Hugr' will almost certainly be slightly different than the universe of your 'Seas The Day' or 'Serenity', but similarities persist and being prepared for the basics will provide at least some simple tools to tackle the Terra Incognita into which you wander.
